Movies I Love: The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)
Directed by: Wes Anderson

There are a few films in my life that I keep going back to. The Royal Tenenbaums is one of them. To me, Wes Anderson is one of the few auteurs left. The way he frames his scenes, his meticulous mise-en-scene, his lovely use of long takes are all signature moves of his. They are unmistakeable and are mainly why I adore him so.

This scene from my favorite film of his, I find to be gorgeous and exemplary of Anderson’s style. From the narration to the music to that close-up of Richie’s face all surmount to a perfectly romantic moment of longing. I could write an entire thesis on that scene. It’s fantastic.
