The Fountain: a few of my favorite shots
It had been a while seen I had seen The Fountain. I am, admittedly, not the film’s biggest fan. I adore Aronofsky and all of his films, but when I first saw The Fountain in 2006, I was unimpressed. I decided to give it a re-watch last night to see if my opinion had changed.
Despite the film’s gorgeous cinematography, stellar special effects and heartfelt performances, I still cannot connect to the film like I did with Black Swan, The Wrestler and Requiem for a Dream. The film is all about a man and how he copes with the idea of death. It was a grand task to take on and I don’t think Aronofsky executed it quite so well often times bombarding us too much with Biblical symbolism and grandiose ideas to actually deliver a poignant message. Nonetheless, I appreciate the film’s beauty, as well as Hugh Jackman’s amazing performance.
