The Fountain: a few of my favorite shots

It had been a while seen I had seen The Fountain. I am, admittedly, not the film’s biggest fan. I adore Aronofsky and all of his films, but when I first saw The Fountain in 2006, I was unimpressed. I decided to give it a re-watch last night to see if my opinion had changed.

Despite the film’s gorgeous cinematography, stellar special effects and heartfelt performances, I still cannot connect to the film like I did with Black Swan, The Wrestler and Requiem for a Dream. The film is all about a man and how he copes with the idea of death. It was a grand task to take on and I don’t think Aronofsky executed it quite so well often times bombarding us too much with Biblical symbolism and grandiose ideas to actually deliver a poignant message. Nonetheless, I appreciate the film’s beauty, as well as Hugh Jackman’s amazing performance.

New trailer for Tom Hooper’s Les Miserables starring Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne, Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried, Samantha Barks and Helena Bonham Carter. In theaters Dec. 14.

This trailer gave me chills! Oh it looks like it’s going to be epic and beautiful. I cannot wait to see it. Who else is excited?

The audience knows the truth: the world is simple. It’s miserable, solid all the way through. But if you could fool them, even for a second, then you can make them wonder, and then you… then you got to see something really special.
