In America my name is always preceded with “Oscar-winning actress.” I suppose it made a difference [in my life], but for me an Oscar is a consequence, not an aim. My aim is more hidden, more profound. As a child I would dream about uniting people across the world. If you could do that through film, can you imagine how wonderful that would be?

Oscar Issac — Hang Me, Oh Hang Me (From the Inside Llewyn Davis Motion Picture Soundtrack)

So hang me, oh hang me,
I’ll be dead and gone.
Hang me, oh hang me,
And i’ll be dead and gone.
I wouldn’t mind the hanging,
But the layin’ in a grave so long, poor boy,
I been all around this world.

I really love the way Wes writes with his collaborators, I like the way he shoots, and I like HIM. I’ve become so fond of him. I love the way that he has made his art his life. And you know, it’s a lesson to all of us, to take what you love and make it the way you live your life, and that way you bring love into the world.

One Friday morning on the way to the Studio, we passed a sign advertising the film The Seven Year Itch. The sign showed her standing over a subway grating. As the subway roared underground it shot a big gust of air through the grating which raised her skirt above her hips.
“You see that?” She sighed. “That’s all they want me to do in films. I told 20th Century Fox and the press that I want to play Grushenka in Dostoevsky’s Brothers Karamazov. They all laughed, but none of them have read the book; I call them 19th Century Fox.”
